This is strictly a volunteer function. There is not a budget line item.
Patty to chair Teacher/Staff Appreciation and would like to
merge with Fat Fridays. Currently the
staff luncheons in August, December and May are funded. Committee chair and Patty are working to
develop a monthly staff luncheon, and modify the August/December/May luncheon
with the support of the grade levels.
Patty to report ideas at future PTO meeting.
Lice Update-Barbara Haskins, LWE Nurse
- LTISD
nurses are trying to set up concrete procedures regarding lice at all
schools. Education is the key, but
the question of how to educate needs to be addressed. Formerly, letters went home to specific
classrooms where lice infestations had occurred. Since the state guidelines see lice as
pests and not a disease, the nurse cannot screen an entire class if one
individual has lice. Lice are treated as an inconvenience. More needs to be done in the areas of
prevention. Encouraging children not to share hats and combs. We as a staff need to address situations
where there is hair contact (i.e. head phone sets) and provide alcohol
wipes. When a child returns to school after an infestation, Barb checks
for live bugs. If live bugs are
found, the child is sent home. However, if nits are detected and the child
is not scratching his/her head excessively, the child stays at school.
Nits ¼” from the scalp are considered dead. It was suggested to present an
informational bulletin board regarding lice and their prevention. Jessica Evans will put information on
the website and newsletter. LTISD
nurses are working on a policy to screen, but it must come from the
central office. A suggestion was
made to follow up on the costumes used for the Kindergarten circus with
some sort of weekly check performed
Nomination Committee-Lori Griggs
Nomination forms going home this
week in Tuesday folders. Information is
also on the website. She encouraged
board members to openly recruit possible nominees.
