Lakeway PTO News - Week 23
The PTO would like to thank all of our new and old volunteers who have stepped up this year to chair events, start new programs, and be a part of our school. We appreciate all of the new ideas and time spent on making LWE the best!
*Last night’s Talent Show, featuring some exceptionally talented kids from grades K – 3, was a spectacular event! The Talent Show for grades 4 & 5 is tonight at 7pm in the gym. Please come if you can…you’ll have a great time! Thank you to everyone who came to support the kids and brought delicious baked goods for the intermission. The shows are videotaped and you can order a copy at the door. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students. All proceeds from the show and the bake sale will be used to fund LWE campus needs. If you can help donate baked goods for the bake sale (which happens before and after the show and during intermission), please drop off individually wrapped items in the school office today. More information is posted at www.lakewaypto.org/talent1.htm.
*We are still in need of two people to chair the Sally Foster fundraiser in the fall. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, generating over $13,000 for our school. Find a friend you would like to work with and let us know: Lyn Quinn (lyn_quinn@lakewaypto.org) or Cynthia Casto (cynthia_casto@lakewaypto.org).
*Spanish Club for the Spring will start March 4th. Look for registration forms in next week’s Tuesday folder!
*It’s spring cleaning time! Get ready for the annual LWE garage sale, which is Saturday, March 6. You can rent a space for $25 to sell your own items and keep your profits, or donate items to the PTO. All profits from rental spaces and donated items will be used to fund classroom needs at school. For more information, go to www.lakewaypto.org/garage.htm. If you’d like to rent a space, please complete the form and return it to school ASAP as spaces are going quickly!
*The Hill Country Pasta House is providing inexpensive “teacher appreciation” lunches for LTISD teachers on Wednesdays. We need several volunteers to pick up the teachers’ money from school, pick up the lunches from the Pasta House (located on 620 near Hudson Bend), and deliver the lunches to the office by 11am on Wednesdays. If you can help, please contact Cynthia Casto (cynthia_casto@lakewaypto.org). More details are posted at www.lakewaypto.org/pasta.htm.
*Track and Field Day will be held at Lake Travis High School on May 19th (4th, 5th), May 20th (2nd, 3rd) and May 21st (K, 1st). Look for more details in upcoming e-mail messages. Right now, we need volunteers! If you can help, please contact Cynthia Casto (cynthia_casto@lakewaypto.org).
*The Parents on Patrol (POP) volunteers have been an awesome group of volunteers and they are greatly appreciated by the entire staff. We still have one opening…Wednesdays from 1:30 - 2:30. If you are interested in volunteering for POP, please contact Karen Herzberg at kstewart12@austin.rr.com or 261-9558.
*We are still in need of playground/lunchroom volunteers from 11am – 1pm every day. If you can help during this time, please contact Lori Griggs at lori_griggs@lakewaypto.org. Thank you to all of the volunteers who help during this time to make our lunchroom and playground more enjoyable and safer for the kids!
*It's time once again for the annual Lakeway Poetry Contest! All students in grades 1 through 5 are eligible to submit one or more original poems for consideration. All entries must be typed…if you are able to do so, please use the Web site to submit your child’s poem. The entry form is posted at www.lakewaypto.org/poem.htm. Entries are due by 2:45 on Tuesday, February 10.
*Lakeway Elementary parents: You are invited to attend a presentation at LWE on Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 9am - 10am to hear Dr. Rita Jenkines discuss “Building Your Child’s Emotional IQ.”
