Lakeway PTO News - Week 5

Just FYI: Our ISP had a fire Wednesday night that temporarily shut down our Web site for the evening. Everything is fine now and the Web site is back online. Be sure to check for all the latest happenings at school at www.lakewaypto.org.

The PTO wants to thank Valerie Bissett for coordinating with all of the teachers and staff at Lakeway Elementary to take their pictures for the PTO Web site. You can see these beautiful portraits and learn a little more about your teachers and the staff at http://www.lakewaypto.org/TeacherFeature/meet.htm. Thank you Valerie!!!

A NOTE from your PTO President, Jennifer Neuse:

We have contributed 801.5 hours to Lakeway Elementary as a group of parents. That is terrific. But I know that we are not all reporting every hour we spend improving our school.  I bet it was closer to 1000 hours.  Please take a moment, like I did today, to think back and log those hours.  Jessica has made it easier for you to document your hours by including this option on the Web site at http://www.lakewaypto.org/log.htm. Your time is your most precious gift, please make sure it is reported.

Please set aside some time to help with the Fall Carnival.  It is a huge undertaking and requires everyone's help.  Contact your homeroom parent to offer your help with the class activity or jump on a Carnival Committee and help plan concessions, community relations, or logistics and clean-up. More info is available at http://www.lakewaypto.org/fall.htm.

An additional fundraiser during the holiday season could be done that would promote the spirit of giving for our kids.  It has been suggested that we have a Kids Mall.  The kids would be able to buy gifts for their moms and dads.  They could even purchase items for their class Green Santa families.  Too often that time of year, our kids are consumed with what they want and what they are getting.  We could generate excitement by getting them to think about what they are giving to others and generate funds for teacher wish lists and the new parent picnic pavilion we are planning.  If you are interested in more information or would like to chair the fundraiser please contact Cheri Delong at cheri_delong@lakewaypto.org or 261-1432.

A NOTE from your Volunteer Coordinator, Cynthia Casto:

We still need someone to promote School POP, here is the scoop:

SchoolPop brings together store, catalog, and online merchants with parents and the community to raise money for K-12 schools and youth organizations nationwide. When shopping with SchoolPop's hundreds of store, catalog, and online merchants, these organizations can earn a percentage of each supporter's purchase - at no cost to the organization's supporters.  Stores such as Eddie Bauer, Coldwater Creek, Spiegel, and Sharper Image participate.

If you shop at these stores a percentage will go to our school. This fundraiser can be done from home!

Carnival News: We need a Community Service Chair for the carnival. This person will be in charge of contacting the local community for help, such as contacting the Lakeway police for security, contacting the church for parking, contacting local boy scout/girl scout troops for clean up, contacting high school for students who need community service hours, etc.

We will be having carnival meetings every Thursday at 9:30am starting in October, everyone is welcome!
