Hello Parents!

Just a reminder, if you will not be returning to LWE for the 2005-2006 school year, please send a message to webmaster@lakewaypto.org to drop your e-mail address from this mailing list. If you would like to remain on this mailing list, you don’t need to do anything.

“Welcome to Excellence” Night is Thursday, August 11. Notices were sent yesterday with information about who your child's teacher is and when and where your family should come to school to meet your teacher on August 11. Only kindergarten students will go to their classrooms. Students in other grades will meet in the gym or cafeteria. This is an informal “meet and greet” for your child to meet his or her teacher and it is not necessary for you to stay the entire time. Be sure to have your child complete and bring the “Who am I?” storybook to his or her teacher. You can download this form by going to www.lakewaypto.org and clicking the link at the top of the page. Please use the parking lots at Emmaus Church on Welcome to Excellence Night. Do not park in a red fire zone at school or at Seton across the street.

After August 11, you can use the PTO Web site to sign up for volunteer activities for the fall semester online and to be a homeroom parent or assistant in your child’s classroom. PLEASE use the online form at www.lakewaypto.org and save our volunteers some data-entry work. Teachers do not read the paper forms, and it takes much longer to process them if they are handwritten. Volunteer forms will also go home in Tuesday folders on August 16. However, if you can sign up online, please do so!

We’re in the process of collecting bios and taking pictures of all of the new faculty and staff members. The current teacher and staff assignments are posted at www.lakewaypto.org. Just click the “Meet the Teachers & Staff” link. Check back for updates!

Other important dates to mark on your calendars:

Monday, August 15 is the first day of school. Student arrival time is 7:30am (K-2 go to the cafeteria and 3-5 go to the gym). Classes start at 7:45am and dismissal is 2:45pm. Please read the "Car Rider/Walker Procedures" for drop-off and dismissal at www.lakewaypto.org/car.htm if you are not familiar with the school's procedures.
Wednesday, August 24 at 9:00 am is the volunteer training meeting in the cafeteria. All volunteers are required to attend this important meeting.
Thursday, September 1 is Open House/Curriculum Night for parents to meet their child’s teacher in the classroom. During this time, teachers will introduce themselves, tell you their teaching objectives, and go over important procedures. This meeting is for parents only, so please plan to make other arrangements for your children during this time. Grades K-2 meet from 5:30-6:15pm and grades 3-5 meet from 6:30-7:15pm.
Wednesday, September 7, at 9:00am in the PTO workroom is the first PTO meeting. ALL parents are invited and encouraged to attend.
October 15 (3-6pm) is this year’s Fall Carnival. Please be sure to attend this fun event, which is also one of our school’s biggest fundraisers.
November 12 (6-10pm) is our new dinner/silent auction for adults only at Hill Country Pasta House. Look for more details on how you can sponsor or contribute to this event in future Tuesday folders.

Another exciting year is beginning! We look forward to accomplishing great things!
