Lakeway PTO News - October 28, 2005

Monday and Tuesday, October 31 and November 1, are staff development days and student holidays. Enjoy the long weekend!

If you have not already done so, please record your volunteer hours for October. You can use the volunteer books in the office or the Web site (www.lakewaypto.org/log.htm) to log your hours, but you only need to log them once. If you have been working on anything related to the Carnival or the Mustang Mixer, please count these hours too!

The next PTO meeting is Wednesday, November 2, at 9am in the PTO workroom. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend all PTO meetings.

Parents don't forget to purchase your "Mustang Mixer" tickets... This event is rapidly approaching and we have to provide numbers to Carlos'n Charlie's next week. Tickets are $35 and include appetizers, a great dinner, and a live band for entertainment.  You will love spending a fun night out with other parents and the staff of LWE. The silent and live auctions promise to be exciting!  Make plans now to join us--tickets can be purchased in the front office. Can’t attend but still want to bid on a class project, basket, or other auction item? Please send in your bid with a friend.

Heart 2 Heart invites all 5th grade girls to a "Girls Night Out" Pizza and Bunko party at the Johnson’s house (106 Calypso) tonight, October 28, from 7pm - 9pm. Please RSVP to: Lisa Johnson (lisa@johnsonlakeway.com) or Katie Kordzik (kkordzik@austin.rr.com). For more information about Heart 2 Heart, please go to www.laketravis.txed.net/LKWY/h2h/default.htm.

The National Honor Society Animals Committee at Lake Travis High School is doing a supplies drive at Lakeway Elementary for animals that survived Hurricane Katrina, but are now without homes. They have dropped off a paper bag in each classroom and are asking for donations of new supplies for the animals (food, leashes, cat litter, etc). The class that brings the most supplies will get a special surprise. The animal supplies drive ends today (October 28). They appreciate any help that you can offer.

Thank you for coming to the Fall Carnival! Please take a few minutes to complete our Fall Carnival survey, which is posted at www.lakewaypto.org/survey.htm, even if you weren’t able to make it. Last year’s survey resulted in some great suggestions for this year’s Carnival and we appreciate the feedback.

Classroom basket donations for the Mustang Mixer are due to your classroom teacher by today, October 28. The grade level themes are: Kindergarten: Legos; 1st Grade: Barbie; 2nd Grade: Anything Art; 3rd Grade: Anything Books; 4th Grade: Sports; and 5th Grade: Family Game & Movie Night. Thanks for helping build these baskets!

The Annual LWE Trunk Sale is November 17 from 4-8pm at the school. Reserve a booth now or just plan to attend! If you are interested in reserving a booth or volunteering to help during the sale, please contact Tracie McMeans at 261-4551 or tmcmeans@austin.rr.com. Booths are $35. Go to www.lakewaypto.org to download a vendor registration form.

Need to change the way your child goes home from school? You can download a Bus, Car Rider, or Walk Pass from the Lakeway Elementary Web site at http://www.laketravis.txed.net/LKWY/aboutourschool/about.htm. Complete the form, and then e-mail it to Karen Andrus or send it with your child to school on the morning of the change. These downloadable forms are just another option for changing the way that your child goes home; you can still call the office or send written notes to make changes. However, please note that all changes must be received in the office by 11am.

Help feed the hungry in our Lake Travis community. The annual LWE Holiday Food Drive is November 7-18. Please donate non-perishable food items (in original packaging, please). Collection barrels will be located in each grade level hallway. Donations benefit the Lake Travis Operation Green Santa.

Lakeway Elementary is collecting coats for the annual coat drive now through November 3. There are receptacles set up in the school for new and gently used coat donations.

The Teacher Wish List includes items that teachers and staff have requested from the PTO. If you are interested in making a donation to the PTO to fund specific items and needs in your child’s classroom or elsewhere in the school, please go to http://www.lakewaypto.org/treasurer/wish05.htm to view the list, and then send an e-mail message to treasurer@lakewaypto.org to let us know what donation you would like to make.

The final home football game against Dripping Spring is Friday night November 4th and LTMS and HBMS will sponsor this Pre-game Tailgate Dinner. Hill Country Pasta House/Pronto Italiano will again be serving a fabulous meal. You won't want to miss it! Tickets are only $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for children 10 and under. Tickets are available at LTMS and LTHS Athletic offices and Randall's.
