Lakeway PTO News - January 20, 2006

Lakeway Elementary’s Third Annual Talent Show is tomorrow night, Saturday, January 21, from 6-9 pm in the school gym. Kindergarten through third grade performs from 6-7pm and fourth and fifth grade performs from 7:30-9pm. You may come for the first half and leave at intermission, or come at intermission for the second half, or stay for the entire show. Entry is $5 for adults and free to kids and LTISD employees. The entire show will be recorded and DVD copies can be ordered for $10 each when you enter the show. Concessions will be available before the show and during intermission, with all proceeds going to the PTO for campus needs. Performing acts include singing, dancing, skits, poetry, playing musical instruments, video presentations, comedy, and much more. You’ll be amazed by the creativity and talent!

Please be sure to complete your spring volunteer form if you would like to volunteer at the school this semester. The form is available online at www.lakewaypto.org/volS06.htm and also went home in Tuesday folders. The school has many needs, some of which require only a short time commitment from you. Thank you for completing the form online if you can.

Spring Cleaning? Mark your calendar for this year’s LWE garage sale, April 1. Look for more information in February about renting a parking space.

The school needs volunteers in the lunchroom and on the playground during the lunchtime recess. This is an easy and fun way to help the kids and the school. Volunteers work once a month from 11:15am to 12:45pm. If you want more information or would like to help, please call Danielle Swanson at 608-9585.

Attention 5th Grade Students and Parents: If your child is interested in taking band at LTMS or HBMS there is an open house at the Lake Travis Middle School auditorium on January 24 at 7pm. At this meeting, Mr. Jedele and Mr. Mcelroy will provide information about the band program to parents and have instrument demonstrations available for all students.

Keep abreast of what’s happening at school… Minutes from the December PTO meeting are posted at http://www.lakewaypto.org/meetings.htm. The next PTO meeting is February 1 at 9:15am in the school cafeteria.

A volunteer check-in terminal is now located in the volunteer workroom at school. Volunteers can use this terminal to check in and check out when they are on campus so they do not need to wait for visitor and student sign in/sign outs at the terminal located in the office. Volunteers do not need to print paper badges if they currently have a permanent one (hanging in the office).

Putting something in the Tuesday Folder? Please provide an electronic copy of your document to Mary Kosacz (kosaczm@laketravis.txed.net) when submitting it for approval. All approved Tuesday Folder items are stored for a few weeks on the school’s Web site at http://www.laketravis.txed.net/LKWY/tuesday%20folder/default.htm.

Parents, teachers, and kids who are participating in the RunTex Lifestyle Training course can access the weekly workout information through the PTO Web site. Go to www.lakewaypto.org and click the RunTex link.

Attention Fiesta Texas fans: You can buy half-price tickets to Fiesta Texas, with unlimited rides and short lines, and help support the Junior Class and prom all at the same time. The LTHS Junior Class is selling tickets to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio for just $21 to go on a special opening day: Sunday, March 5, 2006, 10am to 6pm. And, you will get a return ticket for a second day of admission for free for any operating day in September. The special opening day on March 5 is not open to the general public. Only those who purchase tickets in advance will be able to enter the park on March 5, so that will limit the number of people in line. All orders must be received by February 21 at 4pm in order to guarantee that you receive your tickets in time. For more information and an order form, go to www.lakewaypto.org and click the Fiesta Texas tickets link.
